Connection through an SMS service provider does not require the connection of any additional hardware to the IceWarp UCS Server; however, functionality can be limited and is mostly suitable for outbound SMS alerts.

An SMS modem should be installed in order to fully utilize the capabilities of IceWarp SMS, including sending, receiving and storing SMS messages through the central server. IceWarp SMS supports an unlimited number of modems and allows you to specify sophisticated usage rules.

Deployment
IceWarp SMS is integrated into the IceWarp Unified Communications Server. Utilization of mobile phone operator networks can be achieved via:

SMS service provider
IceWarp UCS connected via SMS modem(s)

Archiving
All SMS text messages are centrally archived, ensuring Sarbanes-Oxley complaiance. Additionally, text messages are stored with all other messages in each user's personal archive and made easily accessible and searchable through any IMAP enabled email client including IceWarp WebClient.

IceWarp WebSMS Client
The growing importance and use of SMS communication has been addressed in the IceWarp WebClient's specialized WebSMS interface. WebSMS allows users to send and receive text messages in the same familiar manner they currently send and receive email.
